UK’s Tiannah wins Rising DJ and Producer Challenge in Ghana
UK-based DJ Tiannah has won the 2023 edition of the AfroFuture Rising DJ and Producer Challenge in Ghana.
The result announced on 13 December saw Tiannah edge Nigeria’s Zyrx Sounds and Uganda’s Abbeh, who also made the top three cut. She now takes over from Ghanaian-American selector Ethan Tomas who was named the winner of the inaugural edition of the competition last year.
Tiannah will receive airfare to Accra, Ghana, for a performance opportunity at TuneCore’s AfroFuture Mixer and a slot on the TuneCore Stage at the AfroFuture festival at El Wak stadium on 28 and 29 December. The event will be headlined by Nigeria’s Davido and Ghana’s Black Sherif, among others.
Additionally, Tiannah will take home a special prize package furnished by Native Instruments and Splice, including a Kontrol S61 Keyboard, a Komplete 14 Collector’s Edition, a Traktor X1 DJ Controller and a free one-year subscription to Splice’s Creator.
“I’m so grateful for this opportunity,” Tiannah said following her win. “I can’t wait to rock the stage.”
Held in partnership with Believe-owned digital music distribution company TuneCore, the competition aims to spotlight emerging DJs and beatmakers across Africa and the diaspora.
The brainchild of the Culture Management Group, this year’s AfroFuture is running under the theme Black Unification and pan-Africanism, honouring the achievements of Black pioneers throughout the diaspora and highlighting their contributions to art, culture and innovation.
