Victony shares Soweto remix ft. Rema and Don Toliver
Nigerian musician Victony has released a remix of his hit single ‘Soweto’, ahead of the release of the deluxe edition of his Outlaw EP. The new version of the song, which features fellow Afrobeats act Rema and US rapper Don Toliver, is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
“‘Soweto’ is such a special track for me,” Victony said, adding that it was “very exciting to team up with Don Toliver and Rema for the remix.”
Co-created with producer Tempoe, who has also worked with CKay, Omah Lay and Jason Derulo, ‘Soweto’ was originally released in May last year, as part of Outlaw, a collection marking Victony’s comeback after surviving a car accident in 2021.
The project’s focus track, ‘Soweto’ has amassed more than 110 million cumulative streams on Spotify, with its attending video racking up more than 35 million views on YouTube. The song was included in Rolling Stone’s list of the 40 Best Afropop Songs of 2022.
In February, before announcing a month-long break, Victony revealed on social media that he had successfully undergone a new surgery and needed time to get back on his feet. “I ask that you stay with me and pray for me,” he posted.
The deluxe edition of Outlaw, which is due for release later this year, will feature Afro-fusion star Burna Boy among its guest acts.
Victony began his professional music career in 2016 as a rapper on SoundCloud, where he released freestyles. In 2020, he released his first body of work, an EP titled Saturn, and gained mainstream notice in 2021 with his appearance on fellow Nigerian act Mayorkun’s ‘Holy Father’. To date, the singer has amassed more than 110 million streams on Apple Music and enjoys a monthly listenership of 3 million on Spotify.
Meanwhile, Victony has been added to the line-up of Afro Nation festival in Portugal from 28 to 30 June, alongside headliners Wizkid and Davido.
