Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2020 release full programme
The full programe for the 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) Festival has been announced. The three-day music celebration will take place from 28 to 30 August 2020 at 8pm GMT.
The VGMA Weekend is designed to “celebrate our steep culture, vivacious music and iconic artists,” the organiser, Charterhouse, said. It will broadcast on TV3, Soundcity TV, The Base TV, Rok Ghana on DStv and GOtv in Africa, and online on MTV Base. It will also stream live on the VGMAs social media pages.
Thirty awards are up for grabs at this year’s event, including Reggae/Dancehall Artist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Best Rapper of the Year, Highlife Artist of the Year, and the Artist of the Year Award, for which Kuami Eugene, Diana Hamilton, Sarkodie, Midikal and Kofi Kinaata have been nominated. The awards will be presented on 28 and 29 August.
On 27 August, Charterhouse announced that public voting for nominees had officially closed. Meanwhile, days ago, rapper Teflon Flexx emerged as the winner of the Unsung category and will perform on Day 1 of VGMA Weekend. It is the first time the award has been won by an artist from the Upper East region of Ghana.
The VGMA COVID-19 Heroes Concert will follow on 30 August to celebrate frontline workers during the pandemic. Performers billed for the concert include EL, KiDi, Adina, Kuame Eugene, Kofi Kinaata, Medikal, Kwesi Arthur, Akwaboah, King Promise, Eno Barony, Strongman, Celestine Donkor, Ras Kuuku, Efya, Kofi Mole and Epixode, among others.
VGMA Weekend was introduced by build-up events like the VGMA21 CountDown Series and the VGMA21 Nominees Live Chat, which featured interviews with various contenders.
