Founded in Miami in 2015 by Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif, the recurring hip hop mega-festival has over the years expanded to include events in other countries. The Canada edition will mark the event’s debut in the North American country, a development the organisers have described as “the beginning of something beautiful for the city” of Toronto.
Wizkid will take the stage on 11 September, which will mark the climax of the festival. The ‘Essence’ hitmaker’s performance will be heralded by fellow Nigerian singer Rema, who has been confirmed for Day 1 of the festival. Other co-headliners at the event are American rapper Future and British act Dave.
Wizkid’s Rolling Loud Toronto show will follows his recent nomination for the Top R&B Song Award at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, scheduled for the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on 15 May. Earlier this month at the 64th Grammy Awards, Wizkid lost in the Best Global Music Performance and Best Global Music Album categories, despite being tipped to emerge victorious.
In December, Wizkid headlined the historic three-day Made in Lagos concert at the 20 000-capacity London O2 Arena.
Rolling Loud heads back to Miami in July, with Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar and Future as the headliners. The organisers have also announced legs in Portugal and the Netherlands as part of the festival brand’s global expansion.
Tickets to Rolling Loud Toronto go on sale this Friday.
Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy will perform at the One Night In Space Concert at Madison Square Garden in New York tonight. The show will be streamed live on YouTube on Friday at 3am CAT.
