Yvonne Chaka Chaka named as keynote speaker for ACCES 2024
African music legend Yvonne Chaka Chaka has been confirmed as a keynote speaker for this year’s Music In Africa Conference for Collaborations, Exchanges, and Showcases (ACCES), which will be held in Kigali, Rwanda, from 14 to 16 November.
Chaka Chaka will lead a keynote session to inspire artists and stakeholders, highlighting the importance of collaboration, fair compensation and equal opportunities for African musicians in a globalised music industry. The keynote will be presented in partnership with Rwanda Arts Initiative – a not-for-profit organisation established in 2012 to develop and professionalise Rwanda's arts and culture industry.
A decorated hitmaker and activist with over 35 years of success, Chaka Chaka, also known as the ‘Princess of Africa’, currently serves as vice president of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC).
“We are thrilled to welcome a true legend who has not only proudly carried our creative flag for decades but also dedicated her life to championing an equitable music ecosystem in Africa,” Music In Africa Foundation director Eddie Hatitye said.
ACCES, the leading music trade show for African music, will feature over 60 speakers from more than 50 countries, along with a showcase festival presenting bands from across Africa, exhibitions, workshops, a songwriting camp, and much more.
