Zim: 2022 NAMAs announce winners
The winners of the 2022 National Arts Merit Awards (NAMAs) in Zimbabwe were announced at the weekend, with dancehall artist Nutty O dominating the music categories.
The ‘Handipere Power’ hitmaker, who won three awards at the recently concluded Zimbabwe Music Awards, was the winner of the Outstanding Album and Outstanding Male Musician categories. He beat top local artists including Jah Prayzah, Roki, Freeman and Janet Manyowa.
Bio Mudimba took home the Outstanding Newcomer Award by triumphing over Feli Nandi, Sandra Sibanda and Herman Mukombe. The Outstanding Female Musician Award went to gospel singer Janet Manyowa who was nominated alongside Feli Nandi, Dorcas Moyo and Gemma Griffiths.
Top Zimdancehall crooner Winky D, who last released an album in 2019, won the People’s Choice Award. The Outstanding Music Video and Outstanding Artist in the Diaspora awards went to Kalai Faye Barlow and Arnold Chirisa, respectively. The Outstanding Song Award went to Jah Master for his song ‘Hello Mwari’, while 79-year-old gospel singer Mechanic Manyeruke was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
