Zouk star Slaï set for Kigali Jazz Junction return
The second edition of the post-lockdown Kigali Jazz Junction is set to return on 1 July at Camp Kigali after a three-month hiatus.
The organisers, RG-Consult, say next month’s event, dubbed A Franco-Anglo Affair, will feature French zouk musician Slaï as the headliner. He will be supported by Rwandan-Ugandan artist Lilian Mbabazi.
The previous edition, the first since the COVID-19 lockdown was imposed in 2020, took place on 25 March and featured well-known Nigerian Afrobeats artist Timaya.
RG-Consult communications consultant Axelle Umutesi said Slaï would make a second appearance at the event due to popular demand. She said the upcoming edition would take a new format to cater to both Anglophone and Francophone music lovers in the Rwandan capital.
“This edition is very special in that apart from returning back to our former venue, Camp Kigali, which most of our audience loves, it will offer a wide range of music – from jazz to zouk, R&B to Afrobeats, and many more. We can guarantee that it will be unforgettable and we urge everyone not to miss what should be an incredible concert,” Umutesi said.
The live music series has been staged in Kigali since 2015. It is dedicated to jazz, although other genres are often featured.
In early 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic, it hosted Nigeria’s Joeboy as the main act. Past performers include Oliver Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe), Isaiah Katumwa (Uganda), Awilo Longomba (DRC), Cece Sagini (Kenya), Seyi Shay (Nigeria), Tito Al Uribe (Chile) and Zahara (South Africa), among many others.
