The 12-hour fundraiser, which included live music performances, was an internet-wide initiative aimed at benefitting the COVID-19 Solidarity Relief Fund for the World Health Organization.
The SA group was joined remotely by a number of prominent musicians around the world, including John Legend, Jordin Sparks, Bastille, Charlie Puth and Diplo, among others.
The live event also included competitions featuring popular gaming fanatic Nick Amyoony, card-gaming legend Brian Kibler and WWE star Xavier Woods.
About $2.8m had been raised for the initiative at the time of writing. Those who would still like to contribute to the Solidarity Relief Fund can do so here.
Twitch is known for its users’ big charity drives. Last year, American video blogger Ben Lupo raised more than $2.3m on the platform in one stream for St Jude Children's Research Hospital. It was also widely anticipated that the platform would garner much support during the COVID-19 crisis.
Twitch has become popular among artists who are streaming their live performances. The platform recently partnered with SoundCloud and Bandsintown to give musicians quicker access to money.
