Kenyan group wins Amazing Voices talent show
Season 1 of reality talent search Amazing Voices ended when Kenyan a capella group Wanavokali was crowned the winner at the show’s finale that aired on 5 April.
The 13-week competition, which took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, was broadcast live on Mzansi Magic, Mzansi Wethu, Africa Magic, Maisha Magic East and Zambezi Magic.
Wanavokali's six members – Ythera, Riki Msanii, Chepkorir, Lena Gayah, Rui and Mellah – walked away with $100 000.
Auditions for the show were held in Kenya, South Africa Zimbabwe, Kenya and Ghana. The selected participants formed a group and showcased their talent across three genres: gospel, pop and R&B.
"A massive congratulations to Wanavokali (Kenya) for winning the Old Mutual #AmazingVoicesAfrica and the $100 000 prize," Old Mutual, which partnered with M-Net to make the talent show possible, said on Instagram. "Thank you for sharing your voice with Africa and here’s to doing more great things every day.”
Wanavokali also posted on social media: "Guys we won. Thank you so much for the votes and support, 100 000 USD is coming home!"
Dates for the second season of the show are yet to be announced.
