Ghana's Lamisi to hold COVID-19 virtual concert
Ghanaian singer Lamisi has announced a virtual concert on 25 July to offer hope to those affected by COVID-19.
The gig, titled Brighter Side after her debut album, makes Lamisi the latest Ghanaian artist who is turning to online performances in the wake of the pandemic. She is expected to perform songs off the album, which was released to critical reception in 2019.
The concert, which will start at 8pm GMT, is organised in conjunction with media production company Kofi TV and will be supported by Music In Africa. Fans can also catch the concert on Lamisi's Facebook page.
Lamisi was born Regina Lamisi Awiniman Anabilla Akuka and began her career playing with the Patch Bay Band, carving a solid reputation on Ghana’s live circuit.
She has collaborated with big names such as Samini, Stonebwoy, Becca, Rocky Dawuni, Sarkodie, Amandzeba, Atongo Zimba, Becca, Afro Moses, Patoranking and Lady May – both live and in the studio.
Her singles include ‘Tanka Fanka,’ ‘Mr Strawberry’ and ‘Kuul Runnings’, all of which belong under her self-styled 'Afro-fusion pop' genre.
Meanwhile, confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ghana currently stand at more than 27 000 with 145 deaths. Whereas nearly all sectors of the country’s economy have been badly affected, the creative industry has been particularly hit, with the organiser of the country’s biggest music award platform predicting that it will take two years for things to return to normal.
