Call for applications: Techstars Music Accelerator programme 2021
Techstars Music is now accepting applications from startups for its accelerator programme, which will take place virtually from 16 February 2021.
The annual three-month programme seeks to work with companies that can assist the live music and entertainment sector globally. For the first time, the initiative – including its recruitment and evaluation process – will take place online. Each successful startup will receive an investment of $120 000 and more than 300 mentors across the music, tech and venture ecosystems.
"As investors, we think this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build a gigantic business in music and live events,” a Techstars blog post reads. “We also think it is the perfect opportunity to build a more equitable and diverse music business.”
Techstars managing director Bob Moczydlowsky says that the startups chosen for the next programme will have a diverse range of founders. "Techstars Music is committed to 50% of our programme CEOs being diverse, with a particular focus on black, LGBTQ+ and female founders,” he said. “Black and LGBTQ+ culture are undeniable drivers of global music culture, and we believe startups led by individuals who identify with these cultures are best-positioned to shape the future of the business.”
Techstars also announced the addition of Amazon Music as a new partner for 2021. Other members include Warner Music Group, Bill Silva Entertainment, Sony, Concord, Royalty Exchange, AVEX, Peloton and Entertainment One.
“Techstars Music members provide more than just operating capital: they run the programme with us, helping at every step of the process, from selection, to mentoring, to business development, and often, follow-on investment,” Techstars said.
