Zim’s Cindy Munyavi and Tanzania’s Linah to collaborate

The two artists met on Saturday 17 September in Mangochi, Malawi at the Nkopola Summer Splash music festival, where the management teams of both artists arranged the deal.

Cindy, who recently released her ‘Dai’ video, wrote on her Facebook: “Wishes do come true. Bryce Nation [her management] has been trying to land a collaboration with one of Tanzania's top female artists Linah Sangah for a long time.

“We met at an international music festival and the musical chemistry was mind-blowing. I am so excited that a Cindy Munyavi and Linah Sanga collabo is coming through with a video.”

Famous for the song ‘Ole Themba’, Linah Sanga also shared a picture of herself and Cindy on Instagram with the caption, “Really excited hahahhaha inshaallah (God bless).”

In an interview with Music in Africa, Cindy said: “This collaboration took years to materialize and we have already started working on the song. [The song] might be called ‘Moto’—we are still finalizing.”

Cindy, who has so far released two albums, The Groove Theory and Kukuda/Loving You, said she is now focusing on collaborating with artists from other countries. “I am trying to penetrate the East African market. We are expanding our repertoire.”

The single will be produced by Elton Bryce who heads the independent record label Bryce Nation in Zimbabwe. It will be released before the end of the year.  

Judging from songs from their solo careers, the collaboration should work. Cindy is known for popular choruses which transcend into homes, cars, clubs, broken and mending hearts and little kids rhymes. Her soft voice is quiet and pleasant to listen to and will add flavor to Linah’s already enticing vocals heard on songs such as ‘Hello’, ‘Ushafahamu’, ‘No Stress’ and ‘Malkia Wa Nguvu’.

Linah, a top Tanzanian singer who has made waves across Africa has featured on a number of collaborations with different musicians—chief among them, her countrymen Diamond Platinumz on ‘Kizaizai’, and Christian Bella on ‘Hello’.

This is not the first time artists from Zimbabwe and Tanzania have worked together. Last month, Zimbabwe’s Jah Prayzah collaborated with Tanzanian star, Diamond Platnumz. The result is the song, ‘Watora Mari’—from Jah Prayzah’s seventh album, Mudhara Achauya.
