Zambian artist Jay Rox releases new EP
Zambian artist Jay Rox has released a new EP titled Poetry In Motion, his eighth studio project.
The seven-track EP produced by Umoja Sounds, the Kenyan super producer duo of Provoke and Mandugu Digital, is available for streaming on all major platforms.
“I try to create relatable music that will offer guidance to listeners, give them peace in any way and inspire them on a daily basis,” Jay Rox said. “I am grateful to those that have walked the journey with me and also brought people to be a part of my journey – this is my pride.”
The EP release was accompanied by the launch of the music video for ‘Nothing to Something’, a single highlighting Jay Rox’s grass-to-grace journey.
The EP’s title and theme are inspired by Jay Rox’s career spanning more than a decade in which he has been producing “music that moves masses”, thanks to his unique writing and delivery abilities.
Umoja Sounds and Jay Rox spent a couple of weeks together in Zambia, initially planning to record only a few songs but this eventually led to the birth of Poetry In Motion.
On working with Umoja Sounds, Jay Rox said: “The experience was nothing short of amazing. I’ve worked with Provoke on quite a number of songs from back in the day. We first did a collaboration on the song ‘Translate’ and that was the start of a stable, long-term work relationship. That track was also featured on one of Umoja Sounds EP released in 2021. Our synergy is one of a kind and working together always feels like magic.”
The new project cutting across various sounds from hip hop, R&B and Afro-pop fusion should be welcomed by a wide range of listeners.
“I would like to thank all my fans for believing in me – the artist I have become now from the Zone Fam days,” Jay Rox added. “The support keeps pushing me whenever I step into the studio showing how important the fans are to me. I’ll continue to strive to put out music to impact people’s lives positively. My fanbase outside of Zambia is considerably growing and I’m very grateful for that. I appreciate all my fans all over Africa and beyond for supporting and pushing my music.”
The music producer-turned-recording artist, also known as Roxa, was born on 22 February 1988 in Lusaka, Zambia. He first shot into fame as a member of hip hop group Zone Fam whose debut single ‘Shaka Zulu On Em’ was well received in Zambia.
He has enjoyed success as a solo artist with the release of albums such as Enigma (2022), Scar (2020), Mvesesani (2020), Outside the Rox 2 (2018), Lusaka (2017), Trans-Afrique (2017) and Outside the Rox (2015).
