Call for applications: Yamaha scholarship for clarinet students
Yamaha Music Gulf, a subsidiary of Yamaha Corporation, is calling on music students to apply for its 2022-23 scholarship programme.
The programme, now in its seventh edition, is returning after a one-year break. It aims to contribute to musical culture by supporting young musicians to realise their creative potential and develop perspectives that will boost their musical careers.
The 2022-23 programme has been tailored for clarinet students.
Programme
- One Yamaha Custom Clarinet will be awarded to each of the six selected scholars.
- The finalists will be selected based on video recordings of the applicants’ performances.
- The final audition will take place in Dubai, UAE, in February 2023.
- The travel cost and accommodation for the finalists will be provided by the organiser.
- The finalist may be accompanied by their teacher/professor.
Eligibility
The scholarship programme is open to clarinetists who were born between 1 January 2001 and 31 December 2006. Age verification is required upon registration.
Countries
Students who have permanent residence in the following countries and regions are eligible:
- Group I – Middle East, West Asia and Africa.
- Group II – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine.
Note: Ukrainian passport holders who are temporarily staying outside of Ukraine but lived in the country on a permanent basis until 24 February 2022 are also eligible to participate.
Application
The applicants must submit the following documents to Yamaha distributors – email or printed – in their countries between 1 September and 30 November 2022:
- Application form which can be downloaded here or obtained from Yamaha distributors near them.
- Identity document (passport, national ID).
- Video recording with YouTube link.
Repertoire
First audition:
- Applicants should submit a recorded performance with two pieces representing different styles.
- Total performance time is limited to 20 minutes.
Final audition:
- Free choice programme with a maximum duration of 10 minutes.
Video submission guidelines
- Video resolution must be at least 1280x720 pixels with high-quality audio.
- Video can be recorded by any device that supports video recording.
- At the beginning of the video recording, the applicant must say his/her first name, last name and the title of the event: “Yamaha Scholarship programme 2022-23”.
- The applicant must be clearly visible on the video in order to be identified.
- The applicant is required to send a YouTube link with his/her recording. It should be submitted with an ‘unlisted’ privacy setting (only visible to those with the link).
- Both pieces must be recorded in one take without any editing and uploaded as one video file.
Schedule
- Application period: 1 September to 30 November 2022.
- First audition by recorded pieces: December 2022.
- Announcement of the first audition results: January 2023.
- Final Audition: February 2023.
