Femi Kuti goes to Europe
Following the 2018 edition of the annual music festival Felabration, Femi Kuti and the Positive Force would be touring Europe.
This year’s Felabration kicked off with a secondary school’s debate which was won by Rainbow College, located in Surulere, Lagos. The event proper began with a symposium on the theme of African leadership In The Millennium. Felabration also hosted an Afrobeat dance contest tagged Afrobics Dance Competition.
This year the festival celebrated the late Fela Kuti’s 80th birthday under the theme Baba at 80: Overtaking Overtake, as borrowed from the popular Fela song ‘Overtaking Don Overtake Overtake’.
As with the preceding editions, this year’s featured a varied set of performances by such acts as Ajebutter 22, BOJ, Dremo, Peruzzi, Mayorkun, DJ E-Cool, Idowest, Teni, LAX, Kiddominant, Amayo leader of Antibalas Group, Small Doctor, Tomi Thomas and Daddy Showkey. Last year, the event hosted Wizkid who performed on the last night of the event.
This year, pop act Davido closed the event with a performance on the last day. Femi Kuti, who had alerted fans through social media about the impending tour, appeared online in a video to remind fans of the tour in Europe.
“Hey guys, Felabration fever here in Lagos and immediately after Felabration we are embarking on our last European tour for 2018,” he said. “Check Femikuti.com…to see all our dates. Make sure you are there. Ororororo!”
On the road, Femi Kuti would be expected to play songs from his February 2018 album, One People One World, which has produced 'Na Their Way be That' and the title track as singles.
The tour will see Femi Kuti play in cities in countries including Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain and Germany. The Afrobeat musician and his band start begin their tour with a concert at France’s Festival Roots'Ergue - Sauveterre-de-Rouergue on 26 October. The last performance in Europe is scheduled for 24 November and would take place at the Cartagena Jazz Festival in Spain.
