Upcoming Samthing Soweto release tops Apple Music SA album chart
South African musician Samthing Soweto is the first local artist to have concurrent No 1 releases on Apple Music's Singles and Album charts in South Africa with a pre-add release.
The singer reached the top of the two charts with the single 'Akulaleki’ and the upcoming album Isphithiphithi. Sitting at No 2 on the Singles Chart is ‘Amantombazane’ by DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small. The song also features Samthing Soweto.
The 13-track Isphithiphithi will be officially released on 20 September and features such tracks as ‘Sebenzela Nina’, ‘Azishe’, ‘Nodoli’, ‘Uvalo’, ‘Thanda Wena’ and ‘Umuhle Uyasabeka’.
“Isiphitiphithi sees him working with top SA producers DJ Maphorisa, Kabza Da Small and Thabo Ngubane and includes some amazing features and co-writes with the likes of Sha Sha, Ali Keys, Mduduzi Mathebula, Mduduzi Memela and Bongkhosi Zondo,” Apple Music said.
“This eclectic and well-curated album is a much-anticipated, standout moment for Samthing Soweto to truly showcase his grandeur not just as a vocalist but as a truly skilled writer and producer in his own right.”
Samthing Soweto launched his career as one of the founding members of a cappella group The Soil. He is credited for fusing R&B, jazz and Afro-soul and has worked with such artists as Black Coffee and Sun-El Musician, with whom he released the highly successful 'Akanamali' in 2017.
