Tanzanian rapper launches youth awareness campaign
Tanzanian rapper and activist Kala Jeremiah has launched a campaign to raise awareness with young people on social and economic empowerment.
The campaign, Kijana Smart, is courtesy of Wanandoto Foundation and seeks to fight poverty, hunger, gender inequality and the poor healthcare system in Tanzania. It also seeks to aid in the creation of a better education system in the country.
“Young people are burdened by challenges in their lives such as staying healthy and achieving a sustainable income,” Kala Jeremiah told Music In Africa. “We must learn how to include and engage young people in development and decision making.
“Entrepreneurship is still the solution for solving job creation. The youth need to be shown how best they can tap into the resources around them. As an essential pillar of society, their success has an indisputable direct impact on social progression.
"We welcome all stakeholders such as NGOs, the media and even the government to partner with us so that this campaign can be successful and have an impact on the youth.”
On 21 October, Jeremiah uploaded a video on YouTube where he encourages the youth to adopt the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The campaign will make use of media tours, debates, conferences, concerts and music composition to disseminate information on how the youth can embrace social and political responsibility.
