Deelee Dube
Bio
Deelee Dube is a South African artist based in the UK.
She made history by becoming the first British Winner and recipient of the 2016 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition (held at the NJPAC in New Jersey, US).
Dube is one of the foremost gifted vocalists to have emerged from the London scene in many years. She embodies a stellar African musical lineage, the eclectic tastes of a London upbringing, and a deep love and respect for the jazz tradition.
She possess what Jazz Times called ‘a warm tone, genuine blues feeling, and easy rhythmic authority.’ Her late father was the famed South African jazz pianist Jabu Nkosi. Her grandfather Zacks Nkosi was a legendary saxophonist, and bandleader from the country’s music scene.
Dube was brought up in a musical family and formed her first band at the age of 14. She attended BRIT School for arts and music and received formal voice sessions under Anton Browne. Dube graduated from the South Bank University and Morley College in London with degree in music.
