Hand Made Africa Music, a non-profit organisation working to strengthen the African music ecosystem, has partnered with The Music Creatives Workshop (TMCW) in Mpumalanga to support the development of emerging artists and promote sustainable growth within the continent’s creative industries.
- The collaboration sought to equip artists with essential industry knowledge and practical tools covering strategy, branding, production, songwriting, and musical direction.
The collaboration sought to equip artists with essential industry knowledge and practical tools covering strategy, branding, production, songwriting, and musical direction. Through its partnership with TMCW, the organisation aimed to nurture Mpumalanga’s growing pool of talent while contributing to a long-term framework for African music on the global stage.
According to Hand Made Africa Music co-founder and industry strategist Sakhile Mavimbela, the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to bridging gaps in access and opportunity. “African artists have the talent; what they need is access, structure, and opportunity. This partnership is about laying that foundation and opening doors,” he said.
Founded in 2022 by Mavimbela and creative director Mlondi Zulu, Hand Made Africa Music seeks to establish a structured and competitive African music industry. Based in Johannesburg, the organisation offers a range of services including artist development, branding, contract and rights management, international market expansion, and strategic consultancy.
The organisation’s leadership team also includes Khanyiso Ndinisa, who oversees daily operations, social media, and project implementation. Together, the team has led various initiatives across the continent and abroad, focusing on education, empowerment, and global visibility for African artists.
Established in 2017, The Music Creatives Workshop has trained and mentored more than 300 young musicians in Mpumalanga through workshops and performance opportunities. The recent collaboration with Hand Made Africa Music expanded these efforts, providing participants with industry insights, networking opportunities, and skills to pursue careers beyond their local communities.
In August 2025, the two organisations hosted Studio Camp 2025 at Dawson’s Game & Trout Lodge in Mpumalanga. The intensive two-day programme included training on digital production, financial literacy, and career sustainability. Among its outcomes were a four-track collaborative EP and Phuma Langa (Mpumalanga Cultural Experience Song)—an anthem celebrating cultural unity and regional sound, released on 12 September 2025.
