Étienne Kas

I’m an activist artist and musician, singer, performer, composer and guitarist operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the city of Goma since 2016 with a specialty: African music/soul fusion and R'n'B.
Born in Rutshuru on May 18, 1996.
What motivates me the most are the painful experiences that my fellow citizens are going through and especially the children and young people of my generation who have never known peace like me.
Since my commitment to conscious music, I have already produced several works, concerts and participated in several mobilization events in my region and beyond.
I’m a volunteer musician at the local level, reconciling music and local development through hosting discussion panels between young people....

In 2021 I am participating in the creation of the anthem of the Amani festival and also performing on the big stage with other committed artists from the Grand Lac region.
in 2022, I was the winner of the “2022 Africans Rising activist artist” prize.
My journey took on a new dimension when I obtained the Voice2Rep music for change scholarship, “I saw this as an opportunity for me to express what is happening in my country, especially in Rutshuru where I am from native.
As a survivor of the war, I told myself that my music could serve to challenge our representatives about their duties and remind them that they are at the service of the population, but also to raise awareness in the community about the right and duty that she has to vote responsibly and objectively.
Thanks to my commitment and my talent, I have established myself as a committed and talented voice in the contemporary musical landscape.
I launched the “DAi-claim” program, meaning “to claim” in english. An artistic co-creation campaign for citizen mobilization for peace, justice, health and the environment in DRC.
This program aims to organize performances in the streets to encourage citizens to remain active and demanding of elected officials, so that they fulfill their obligations and be held accountable.

In short, I sing for peaceful coexistence, living together, the fight against corruption and other anti-values.
I am for active non-violence and my artistic activism is a good example of this.
