SA: Texx and the City launches music podcast
South African entertainment website Texx and the City (TATC) has announced that it will launch on 9 April 2020 a new music podcast called Texx Talks.
The weekly podcast will be hosted by TATC curator and editor Tecla Ciolfi and will feature interviews with musicians from South Africa and around the world.
Season 1 will include talks with artists such as Afropop singer Zolani Mahola (South Africa), electronic act The Kiffness (South Africa), singer-songwriter Alice Phoebe Lou (South Africa), BCUC (South Africa), soul singer and producer Tresor (South Africa/DRC) and house producer Ryan Murgatroyd (South Africa).
The initiative is a joint venture between Tecla, producers Jonathan Inggs and Matthew Loots (Unicorn Media) and research assistant Al Clapper.
“As the popularity of podcasting continues to grow steadily in SA there’s no better time to capitalise on the need for a solid music podcast. Texx Talks does exactly this," a press statement reads .
Podcasts have become popular in South Africa. The number of listeners in SA increased by 50% in 2018, making podcasts the fastest growing media consumed in the country, according to reports.
Although statistics for 2019 are not easily obtainable, PwC has predicted that music and podcast revenue will grow at a constant 8.3% compound annual growing rate for the period 2019-23.
