
Call for applications: COVID-19 music projects in Kenya
The Permanent Presidential Music Commission (PPMC) in Kenya is accepting applications for the recently launched three-month Together at Home campaign.

The Together at Home campaign was launched earlier this month by the Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Heritage. It included a 100 million Kenyan shilling ($940 000) stimulus package for artists, actors, and musicians.
The campaign is expected to directly engage about 20 000 musicians, actors and visual artists in Kenya's 47 counties. Content by creatives from vulnerable groups and persons living with disabilities will constitute 30% of the overall content.
According to PPMC, the stimulus package aims to:
- Engage and mobilise the cultural and creative artists in strategic COVD-19 messaging on behaviour change.
- Assist in flattening the coronavirus transmission curve, including, but not limited to, social distancing, hand washing and wearing personal protective equipment such as masks.
The application deadline is 31 May 2020.
Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Requirements
Applicants will be required to submit the following:
- Name.
- ID/passport number.
- Telephone number.
Who can apply?
- Bands and a capella groups.
- Pop musicians.
- DJs and VJs.
- Dancers.
Eligibility
The applicant must:
- Be a Kenyan Citizens with valid ID/passport number.
- Be registered in the PPMC portal. Non-members can register here or via USSD channel *483*1006#.
- Have been actively engaged in performances prior to January 2019.
The proposed projects should:
- Share messages of hope, unity, encouragement, resilience and national values.
- Celebrate Kenyans who have been at the forefront of the current pandemic, such as the medics, security services and essential services, etc.
- Provide a creative vision or idea on the post-crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Application process
Applicants are expected to:
- Prepare their own original music/composition repertoire lasting between 25-30 minutes.
- Perform live and video record the session.
The recorded content should be submitted via email to submissions@ppmc.go.ke or WhatsApp number 0769 496 025.
Selection process
Applicants will be vetted based on:
- The creativity of the production (innovation, content matter and artistry).
- Execution of the project theme.
Note:
- The selected content shall be aired on the Ministry of Sports and Culture and PPMC social media platforms.
- All productions should adhere to the directives and guidelines from the Ministry of Health.
