Call for applications: Violin competition in Singapore
The annual international Singapore Violin Festival (SVF) competition is now open. The selected winners will perform at the opening SVF 2021 gala concert.
The annual competition seeks to:
- Offer violinists of all age groups a platform to showcase their abilities and talents.
- Nurture the deserving prize winners into fully-fledged professional musicians.
"Many of our past festival competition winners have moved on to become major international competition prize winners, and we strive to carry on that legacy," the SVF says.
Interested applicants can apply in the following categories:
Group
Participants must:
- Be above 17 years as of 9 July 2020.
- Submit three pieces that should not be less than 18 minutes or exceed 40 minutes.
- Cover three of the following stylistic periods: baroque, classical, romantic and 20th century to present.
The winner will receive 1 000 Singapore dollars (about $705).
Group B
Participants must:
- Be between the ages of 8 and 16 as of 8 July 2020.
- Submit two pieces that should not be less than 8 minutes or exceed 20 minutes.
- Cover two of the following stylistic periods: baroque, classical, romantic and 20th century.
The winner will receive SGD 600 ( about $425).
Group C
Participants must:
- Be aged 8 and born after 1 July 2012.
- Submit one piece that should not exceed 8 minutes.
The winner will receive SGD 300 (about $211).
How to apply
The SVF competition is open to public registration.
The application deadline is 30 June 2020.
Note:
- For applications submitted before the 30 May, the application fee is $109. Applicants that submit after will be required to pay $149. The application fee is non-refundable.
