Call for submissions: SoundCloud compilation album
SoundCloud, in partnership with Pharrell Williams and i am Other, is calling on all independent and emerging artists to submit their songs for a chance to be featured in the streaming platform’s album titled i am Other, Volume 2.
The compilation, which debuted last week, will feature genres, styles and sounds from across the global SoundCloud community, specially curated by Pharrell.
The album seeks to showcase the creativity that has come out of the coronavirus pandemic and the net proceeds will go to charitable organisations that advance social justice.
“With the continued vision to ignite what’s next in music and provide opportunities to be for fresh, new talent to be discovered, Volume 2 will feature another crop of emerging artists hand-picked by i am Other and SoundCloud,” a SoundCloud blogpost reads. “For Volume 2, we’re looking for original tracks that are inspired by the current moment and climate, with a focus on the themes of empowerment, unity and social justice.”
How to submit your track
- Upload your track to SoundCloud and include the hashtag #SCxiamOTHER2 (tracks should only be submitted once; multiple submissions of the same track will not be accepted).
- I am Other and SoundCloud will review submissions and select a minimum of 10 tracks from independent and emerging artists to be featured on i am Other, Volume 2.
- In addition to a spot on the album, selected artists will be fast-tracked into SoundCloud’s recently launched premium marketing services programme Repost Select. The featured musicians will also receive funding for upcoming projects from the company's $10m creator accelerator fund, along with additional promotion and marketing support.
- The deadline for submissions is 14 August, and selected artists will be notified via SoundCloud in early September.
I am Other, Volume 2 will be made available on SoundCloud and will be distributed to all streaming services via Repost Select in October.
Additionally, to celebrate the second compilation and elevate the topic of social justice, SoundCloud has collaborated with Pharrell’s Billionaire Boys Club on a limited-edition T-shirt. All net proceeds will go to the New Virginia Majority Education Fund, a non-profit that builds power for social justice through year-round community organising and voter mobilisation in the US state.
SoundCloud says it received more than 25 000 submissions for the i am Other, Volume 1, and revealed the first ten tracks selected for the album.
