Namibia: Arts council announces COVID-19 relief fund beneficiaries
The National Arts Council of Namibia has approved more than N$1 400 million ($81 000) of COVID-19 relief fund for beneficiairies in the cultural and creative industries.
The relief fund was announced by Namibian Minister of Education, Arts and Culture Anna Nghipondoka in June where N$5 million was allocated for the country’s creative sector.
The beneficiaries were announced in two phases and the first round comprises the Namibian Society of Composers and Authors of Music, National Art Gallery of Namibia and Museums Association of Namibia and National Theatre of Namibia, which each received N$150 000. The Namibia Film Commission, College of the Arts and Organisation Supporting People living with Disabilities in Namibia were granted N$250 000, N$50 000 and N$100 000, respectively.
The second round includes Afro-Music, Arts & Culture (N$74 000), Frans Art Training School (N$75 000), Joseph Madisia (N$30 000), Nam Acting (N$13 700), Project Room (N$34 300) Blaqhouse Entertainment (N$38 900) and Grassroots Entertainment (N$57 100).
Nghipondoka said the relief fund will serve as an “important contribution to ensuring the continued protection and promotion of our nation's rich culture landscape through funding that will be administered over a three-month period,”
Meanwhile, applications for the COVID-19 relief grant are still open. To apply, applicants should download applications forms here and here, and the submission deadline is 30 September.
“The fund application toolkit has all the information that you need for your application,” the council wrote on Facebook. “It will also show you how to write your funding proposals, how to apply online and the health and safety measures your activity/project should adhere to.”
