Call for registrations: Songwriting masterclass in West Africa
African Export-Import Bank, the organizer of the Cookout Africa Songwriting masterclass, is calling on emerging and established songwriters in Anglophone West Africa to register for the next edition in the series.
The webinar will be facilitated by Vincent Le Carl Berry II, a six-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and producer who has collaborated with international musicians including J Cole, Akon, Ari Lennox, Babyface, Brandy and Chris Brown.
Cookout Africa is put together in partnership with the African Union as part of the second biennial Intra-African Trade Fair. The organisers said the event would create a "unique interactive and educational experience that will see a song written in real time through a truly collaborative process."
Participants will be taken through the musician's songwriting experiences while engaging participants in creative writing, group function, reflection, peer learning, peer interaction and practice.
The workshop is open to participants in the Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
The West Africa leg of the Cookout Africa Songwriting series, which was recently held for musicians in eastern and southern Africa, is scheduled for 23 September via video conferencing app Zoom. The session will begin at 6pm WAT.
