Ghana: GHAMRO reschedules 2020 AGM
The Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) has rescheduled its fourth annual general meeting (AGM) from 23 October to 14 October. The change was reportedly instructed by the attorney-general’s department.
The meeting will be held in the Ashanti regional capital of Kumasi as originally scheduled and will be streamed live via the collective management organisation's website at 10am GMT, according to a statement signed by GHAMRO CEO Abraham Adjatey.
No changes have been made to the items on the agenda, which includes the evaluation and approval of the reports of the directors and auditors for 2018-19. Members will also approve for inclusion the proposed changes from regional meetings on a new draft constitution. At the meeting, an election committee, further to the adopted constitution, will be selected.
Adjatey said all COVID-19 protocols would be fully observed, including the admission of only 100 attendees, while the rest will join virtually.
Members hoping to be admitted to the meeting are required to bring their AGM brochure. Voting members unable to make the meeting may appoint proxies who do not necessarily have to be members of the society, Adjatey said.
Proxy forms are available here. Completed forms should be emailed to info@ghamro.org or deposited at GHAMRO’s regional offices no later than 48 hours before the start of the meeting.
GHAMRO was established under Section 49 of the Copyright Law of 2005. It is mandated with the collection and distribution of royalties on behalf of authors, composers and other rights owners. The body seeks to protect, promote and develop the collection and distribution of music royalties, foster music creation and promote the value of music to the creative, cultural and business sectors of Ghana. It is currently led by Ghanaian highlife musician Rex Omar.
