Ghana: MTN Hitmaker reaches top 12 stage

The finalists include singers RBJ, Bryan, Mimi, Adepa, GabiNova, Josh Blak, Nessa Cute, Achiaa, Jimi, Pashyn, Kobby Tuesday, and the competition’s only rapper Kwacy Boat. They are competing for the grand prize of a recording deal worth 120 000 Ghanaian cedis (about $20 500).

The musicians will be eliminated every week until the winner is announced. They will also be mentored by Ghanaian producers DJ Breezy, M.O.G Beatz and Mix Masta Garzy during the contest.

Launched in August, the competition is being run under the theme Unlock Your Flow. Speaking at the launch, MTN Ghana chief marketing officer Noel Kojo-Ganson said: “Since MTN conceived the idea to identify, nurture and economically empower talented young Ghanaians who desire a career in the music industry, we have been amazed by the pool of talent that Ghana has and we are encouraged by the positive impact MTN Hitmaker has made in the industry and the lives of many.” 

The reality show also saw the return of singer Eazzy and producers Kaywa and Richie Mensah as judges.

“I’m looking out for vocal dexterity, consistency in vocal performances and great communication with your crowd,” Kaywa said.

Richie Mensah said: “This year, I want to see something different. With each contestant on stage, I want to see growth. Every year, we have a lot of exciting performances, but this year, I want to understand that each artist is growing each week, listening to advise and rehearsing more so that by the time the competition is over, they should be ready for the world.”
