Singer Waje for August Afropolitan Vibes
Monthly concert Afropolitan Vibes returns to Freedom Park, Lagos on 21 August. Perhaps the most popular music concert in the city, Afropolitan Vibes has featured many of the most prominent artists now working in Nigeria’s music industry. These musicians are routinely supported by the concert’s own instrumentalists and backup singers.
Last month’s event had rapper MI perform songs from his three studio albums for the Afropolitan Vibes audience. His performance drew a massive throng and very positive notices afterwards. Months before the rapper had climbed onstage as his brother Jesse Jagz performed, greeting the crowd and promising to return.
Waje, one of the country’s finest vocalists, has co-helmed a duet with MI, providing the chorus on ‘One Naira’ off MI’s sophomore MI2 album. And headlining Afropolitan Vibes after the rapper will seem apt for fans familiar with that song.
Joining Waje is singer Nomoreloss. Famous for the song ‘Iyawo Asiko’, Nomoreloss took a break from recording music after the death of his mother. He was a judge on the talent show MTN Project Fame and returned to recording music this year, with the June release of the album Beautiful Things. Both artists will, in usual Afropolitan Vibes fashion, perform live. The August line-up is completed by UK-based singer and performance artist The Venus Bushfires.
Afropolitan Vibes was started by singer-songwriter Ade Bantu and has since become a fixture for many Lagos residents and expatriates. It holds third Friday of every month at Freedom Park, a popular meeting point for the city’s artists and art lovers.
