Fourth Ghana National Gospel Music Awards slated for February
The organisers of the Ghana National Gospel Music Awards (GNGMAs) have scheduled the fourth edition of the annual event for 20 February at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The news follows the unveiling of the awards’ nominees last month, as well as the announcement of Steaman Group as the platform’s new main sponsor.
The GNGMAs were established by Global Expert Recovery to honour outstanding musical accomplishments in the country’s gospel fraternity. The fourth edition of the ceremony will award music released in 2020.
Global Expert Recovery CEO Peter Kwabena Dwobeng Sergio told Music In Africa that preparations for the event had been largely smooth.
“The process has been both difficult and fun,” he said. ”I do admit that things have not always gone as planned, but this is very usual in all human institutions. The board has also been very helpful, staying with us throughout the preparations, as have artists, the media and other stakeholders of the scheme.”
Steaman Group CEO Kwabena Obeng said: “I believe in what the entity is doing, which is helping spread the gospel,” adding that Steaman would sponsor future editions of the awards.
Meanwhile, reigning Artist of the Year Celestine Donkor leads the pack of nominees with eight nods. MOG, Diana Hamilton and Nacee secured seven nominations apiece, while Akesse Brempong was shortlisted in six categories. Additionally, Donkor, MOG, Jayana and Gifty Adorye have all been confirmed to perform on the night.
