Musicians Union of Ghana set to walk for peaceful elections

The first of these activities takes place on Thursday 9 June in Tamale, the capital of northern Ghana. Major streets will be covered and at the end MUSIGA members, local leaders, security agencies, youth groups, political parties and other will address the people of the town.

A visit to Bolgatanga follows on Friday 10 June for a similar session. Tuesday 14 June will see the union head to Wa and then to Sunyani on Friday 17 June, which concludes the first leg of the series.

A session at Takoradi kicks off the second leg on 23 June. Cape Coast follows the next day, and Kumasi on 28 June. Ho will receive MUSIGA on 7 July; two days later it will be the turn of Koforidua. The finale takes place in Ghana’s capital city Accra on 10 August.

Rev. Yawson, second vice president of MUSIGA, said the union would use the opportunity created by the walks to hold regional elections for MUSIGA. The union will also stage concerts and engage in social media activation with celebrities.

The walks form a part of the union’s empowerment programme which has also seen a call for the recording of songs promoting peace in Ghana. The initiative is called ‘Using Music as a tool for National Cohesion or Election 2016’.
