Call for applications: Music Crossroads International projects coordinator in Belgium
Music Crossroads International (MCI) is seeking a skilled projects coordinator to join its team in Brussels, Belgium.
The position is suitable for a person who has a passion for music and development. The candidate should be a committed, structured, autonomous and goal driven, with a wide range of project management skills, experience in fundraising and cultural and music cooperation in Africa.
The successful candidate will primarily support and supervise the Music Crossroads Academy and the EU-funded Europe-Africa: Strengthening Collaborative Creative Training for Youth projects, which work to achieve an enriched and thriving music sector in Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, through education and training for the creative industry. This will be carried out in close cooperation with Music Crossroads' partners in Southern Africa.
The position is full-time and will be based in the MCI office in Brussels, with overseas travel to Africa. While the national lockdown persists or recurs, the position will be fulfilled working from home with online meetings. The successful candidate will begin work on 1 April 2021 and must have the ability to travel overseas at least two to three times per year. An initial six months trial period will be given to the selected candidate, after which the candidate’s work will be evaluated and the contract extended should the work be deemed satisfactory.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Assist in the effective management of all projects and related activities.
- Liaising with country offices on a variety of issues daily.
- Reviewing country financial and narrative reports, ensuring they are submitted on time and to a high standard.
- Develop grant proposals for a variety of funding agencies from bi-lateral donor agencies to individual donors.
- Undertake logistic tasks in organising meetings, taking minutes and reporting results from those meetings.
- Assist in the planning, coordination and implementation of all Music Crossroads activities, including travel and logistical management.
- Track the impact of implemented projects by issuing surveys and gathering feedback for the preparation of statistical reports for the projects’ monitoring and evaluation.
- Develop content and manage Music Crossroads’ external communication channels, including MCI’s website, newsletters and social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube).
- Production and design of communication material to increase the outreach (articles, press releases, printed media, videos, etc.)
- Other additional responsibilities as the job requires.
Qualifications
- University degree or equivalent experience in business/project management or international relations.
- Excellent English – both oral and written.
- Project management, grant writing, budgeting and reporting experience.
- Up-to-date knowledge of digital technologies for communication, content creation and dissemination.
- Understanding of the music industry, the main corporations, marketing, music promotion and events.
- Understanding of social media and strategy.
Plusses (not mandatory)
- Experience of living/working in an African setting.
- Written and oral Portuguese.
- Experience with Adobe Suite.
- Website management skills (familiarity with common CMS platforms, especially WordPress).
- Graphic design skills

- Excellent organisational skills, the ability to adhere to strict deadlines whilst working under pressure.
- Good networking skills to ensure relationships with key stakeholders are built and strengthened both in Europe and Africa.
- Excellent administrative skills, organising meetings, travel arrangements, financial monitoring and expenditure.
- Excellent communication, teamwork and collaborative skills, with the experience of working with people from diverse and multi-disciplinary backgrounds.
- A sound understanding of African culture and an appreciation of its importance in the African setting.
- Ability to adapt and be able to function in both structured and unstructured workflows.
