Joyous Celebration’s Lindelani Mkhize launches new project ‘Ignite’

Mkhize is a man who wears many musical hats. He widely known for his contribution to the South African music industry, particularly as the founder and conductor of the gospel supergroup MTN Joyous Celebration, and also as a music producer, record label executive and a judge on popular music TV shows such as ‘I Want to Sing Gospel’ and ‘Clash of the Choirs’.

Following two decades of musical achievements, it can be said that Mkhize has lived a life ignited by passion and sheer dedication to his craft, making him a household name in the music fraternity.

Ignite is a two-day, state-of-the-art production aimed at showcasing South Africa’s undiscovered musical talent across various genres.  From Friday 2 September to Saturday 3 September, the Mandela @ Joburg Theatre will be abuzz with the musical sounds of South Africa’s hidden talent.

“I have always believed that our country is home to an amazing pool of talent and Ignite is an extension of that belief.” said Mkhize. “I’m so excited that our partners share my sentiment. Through this initiative we hope to ignite talent and promote a culture of unconventional collaborations. We are creating a platform for undiscovered talent.”

The three-hour production promises to take music enthusiasts on an unforgettable musical journey, coupled with the creative use of the latest technology to enhance the performances by a six-piece band, brass section and a double quartet string section.

Tickets to Ignite’s two-day run go on sale on Friday 15 July at a cost of between R180 and R400. Book by telephone on 0861 670 670, online via Webtickets or the Joburg Theatre website, or in person at the Joburg Theatre box office. Call for applications

While most of the featured talent has already been identified by Mkhize, he still has left a spot or two open for other hopefuls who will have to try their luck through an online platform.

To enter, simply record a short (1 to 2 minutes) video clip showcasing your musical talent, post it on the Ignite Facebook page and Instagram. Then get your friends to like and share the post.
