Nigeria's Reminisce to release fourth album in August
After just over a year since the release of his last album, Nigerian rapper Reminisce has announced plans for a new release.
Baba Hafusa, his third and latest album, was well received, a few of the album's singles becoming modest hits. While that album was named after his daughter Hafusa, the forthcoming one has a title which reflects Reminisce’s Muslim faith. Named El-Hadj, a title usually conferred on one who has completed the pilgrimage to Mecca, the album’s recently released cover art shows the rapper biting his lower lip, revealing one gold tooth - an accessory said to be permissible in Islam by some scholars.
In between both albums, Reminisce has released a number of singles, notably ‘Asalamalekun’ and its remix featuring the Nigerian-American rapper Wale. Also, the song ‘Nobody Knows’ featuring 2Baba hit the internet only a couple of days before the new album alert as posted on social media by the ‘Local Rapper’ singer.
Reminisce’s first album Book of Rap Stories was released in 2012. The album housed the hit tunes ‘Kako Bi Chicken’ and ‘2Mussh’. The album indicated the rapper’s potential rise, yet it was with his sophomore effort released the following year, Alaga Ibile, that he began to enjoy a wide audience. The album had guest spots filled by Wizkid, Davido, Naeto C and Olamide.
According to Reminisce, the new album will be released sometime in August, although a specific date was not mentioned.
With the announcement of El-Hadj, Reminisce has joined reggae-dancehall artist Patoranking in having an album out by August. The ‘No Kissing Baby’ singer will however be releasing his debut album.
