Zim stars Tuku and Macheso to launch new albums in the UK

Before the Leicester show that will be held at Corah Suite from 9pm to 5am, both artists will hold separate shows on Friday 29 July: Tuku in Finland and Macheso in Leeds, UK.

Organised by Icons of Africa, the show comes at a time when their fans in the UK are looking forward to the local launch of their hotly-anticipated new albums.

With over 60 albums to his name, Tuku’s new 10-track album Ehe Nhai Yahwe has already been launched in South Africa, but not yet in Zimbabwe. The star will launch his new album in Leicester for his UK fans.

Macheso recently released a six-track album called Tsoka Dzerwendo, which first hit the streets on 21 March and reportedly sold over 100 000 copies within a day of its release. Undoubtedly one of the most successful albums in Zimbabwe in recent history, Tsoka Dzerwendo is also expected to be released on cassettes, following a request by Macheso’s fans. His fans in Zimbabwe are still enjoying seeing him perform songs from this new album, although sungura lovers in the UK are yet to see him performing the new songs live. 

This is not the first time these two Zimbabwean giants have toured the UK to entertain fans in the UK, where many Zimbabweans are living. For example they shared a stage together in London in 2012. Tuku and Macheso also performed together recently at the Harare International Convention Centre (HICC) at the Africa Day concert in May this year, when Tuku first announced the imminent arrival of his new project Eheka Nhai Yahwe.

The musical duo are also involved in a lot of humanitarian work. Mtukudzi is a UNICEF Regional Goodwill Ambassador for Eastern and Southern Africa and HIV and AIDS prevention. Macheso is a humanitarian ambassador for Red Cross.
