Black Coffee to thrill fans in Nairobi this April
South African DJ and producer Black Coffee will headline the Muze Open Air concert at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi, Kenya, on 10 April.
The ‘Drive’ hitmaker will share the stage with local DJs synonymous with the thriving Kenyan electronic and dance music scene, including Jahawi, Blinky Bill, Saint Evo, Chucky, Foozak, DJ Vidza, Xan Woods and OneDown.
The first Muze Open Air concert was held on 6 February and was headlined by Ghanaian DJ and producer Juls.
“We've assembled a Kenyan all-star line-up to perform alongside Black Coffee and we couldn't be more excited,” the organisers said.
Black Cofee’s performance will be his second in the country after his debut in 2014 at an event organised by Kenya Nights and Electrafrique.
Since launching his career in 2005, the 45 year old has become South Africa’a biggest electronic music export, playing to capacity crowds at places like Tomorrowland festival in Belgium and the Hï Ibiza club in Spain. He has also won various local and international accolades, including the Breakthrough DJ of the Year Award at the 2015 DJ Awards in Ibiza and the Best African Act Award at the 2016 BET Awards in the US.
In February, he released his highly anticipated album Subconsciously. The 12-track record is his first full-length album release since 2015’s Pieces of Me – although he released EPs in 2016 and 2018. Hi latest album features an impressive roster of collaborators such as Pharrell Williams, David Guetta, Diplo and Usher.
Meanwhile, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on 26 March announced a new lockdown in the Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru counties along with a revised curfew from 8pm to 4am to combat a surge in COVID-19 infections. The rest of the country will continue observing the 10pm to 4am curfew.
The latest statistics from the Ministry of Health indicate a surge in COVID-19 cases from 2% to 22% between January and March, with Nairobi accounting for nearly 60% of all cases.
