Call for applications: Performance residency in Italy
Shedhalle, an institution of contemporary and critical art in Zurich, Switzerland, and the Mahler & LeWitt Studios in Spoleto, Italy, are accepting applications for their international residency programme for artists working in performance.
The residency will last 35 days, and there are 30 slots available. Priority will be given to artists interested in exploring new ways of sharing live performance practices and to individuals facing challenges in creating work due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The programme will take place via ‘the SHED’ – an online residency space on the Shedhalle website programmed by Mexican visual arts performer and producer Michelangelo Miccolis. The platform is conceived as a virtual green room and invites artists to share real-time, process-focused aspects of performance practice in a digital environment whether it be a sketch of an idea, documentation of a realised work, or a testing site for new work.
“‘The SHED’ is an in-process meeting place, a proposal for a virtual green room, a site of connection and presentation not limited to a physical location,” Miccolis said. “It functions as a ‘live room‘ on the homepage of Shedhalle, taken over by international artists, physically routed back to Shedhalle. ‘The SHED’ is accessible for live streaming and media sharing 24/7, not dependent on time zone, where artists can engage. “
