Ann Masina
Bio
Ann Masina is an award-winning and multi-talented artist from South Africa.
Masina began his career in 1997 as a soloist of Africa Sings Choral Choir. In 1999, she joined the Cape Town Opera House, an expansion that saw her perform world renowned operas that include Carmen and Aida and later became the co-founder of JOAT Opera Group.
In 2002, she formed part of the musical Sauer Street, a Malcolm Parkey production staged at Wits University Theatre. From 2005 until 2010, she made a substantial international footprint in Europe especially, performing work by the internationally acclaimed choreographer Robyn Orlin including Dressed To Kill Opera de Lille, Walking Next To Our Shoes - Montclair, Have You Hugged, Kissed and Respected Your Venus Today - Theatre de la Ville.
She is a former member of the the Grammy award winning Soweto Gospel Choir from 2007 until 2011 performing alongside the likes of Jonny Clegg, Angelique Kidjor, Peter Gabriel and many others. She also performed at the 2010 FIFA World Cup draw in South Africa. She performed in Steve Dyer's highly successful project Color Me Human from 2015 to 2016. From 2010 she has formed part of the global phenomenon William Kentridge's major productions, a role she holds up to this day.
She has graced Amsterdam, London, Rome and across Europe, Australia,United States and Latin America performing acts such as Triumphs and Laments, Paper Music, Refuse the Hour and the much respected The Head and the Load. She has also co-starred and lead music on world renowned poet and actress Lebo Mashile's much talked about stage play Venus vs Mordernity. A role that really cemented her as a multi talented performer doing opera, hip-hop, acting of which she won the Naledi award for the best Breakthrough performance: 2019.
She is also part of the award winning choreographer and dancer Dada Masilo's work, , The Sacrifice where she has worked extensively and tirelessly to create the music, sing and dance, also working with Syren Dance in New York composing and singing beautiful music for the dancers. She has delivered compositions by great composers such as Phillip Miller and sang alongside greats such as pianist Vicenco Pasquillero and percussionist Tlale Makhene amongst others. During 2020 Pandemic year she became part of Dan Chiorboli's Solidarity Express Covid Relief Concert,performing alongside Aus Tebza, Black moses Ngwenya from the award winning soul brothers, N'faly Kouyate, Andre Kriel, Justin Sasman and many others. She worked on Philip Miller's Musorelief Fund project. She is also part of Shane Cooper's Happenstance project.
