Kenya’s Prisca Ojwang', Silas Miami to headline multimedia concert
It will be a multimedia jamboree on Friday 16 December at 7pm when Prisca Ojwang' and Silas Miami stage the Afro Loving X Withdrawal Symptoms concert at the Alchemist Bar in Westlands, Nairobi.
Hosted by media personality and artiste Patricia Kihoro, the concert aims to celebrate African beauty through music, dance and visual art. The show will feature performing artistes Chemutai Sage and KIU, visual artistes Mal Muga and Awuor Anyango and DJs G-Money and Jinku of the EA Wave collective.
Prisca Ojwang, fondly known as Prisca Oj trained at the Sauti Academy and is best known for her song, ‘Lies I told Me’. Silas Miami, on the other hand, has just completed his degree in film and photography in South Africa while building his profile as an afro-jazz/afro-pop artist too. He will be marking his homecoming by performing songs from his recently launched EP Withdrawal Symptoms which inspires the theme of the show.
Ojwang’s single ‘Afro Loving’ celebrates African love. She sings: Not talking fairytale, kind of love. Not afro cinema, drama love. Not that tricycle, soap love. Afro loving!'
Miami says of his return home and the timely show: “After two and a half years away, I'm finally coming home! Something has to be said about Nairobi's ability to inspire: and that's because of its people. They are unmatched. Everything I am is a collection of my experiences from home.
"Afro Loving is loving the afro on my head and the music the man underneath it has created. Withdrawal Symptoms is the result of cutting off from a steady stream of greatness all too soon."
He however notes that he intends to pursue the different artistic endeavours after this academic break. The self-confessed academic enjoys intellectual rigour and will pursue a post-graduate degree in film and media at the University of Cape Town. He quips “I’m thoroughly enjoying the act of disrupting historically white spaces with my shenanigans.”
“Silas is coming back home! And we have awesomeness planned for you!” said Ojwang, inviting her fans to the show.
Advance tickets for the show are available on Mookh for KSh1 000 (Kenya shillings). Charges are KSh1 200 at the gate.
