Call for participation: Grammy U virtual conference for students

This year’s edition will feature two live-streamed panels, which will start at 9pm and 12am CAT respectively, and will be available to watch on the Recording Academy's Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Now in its second edition, the annual event seeks to provide hope and insight to job opportunities for future music industry graduates, and will feature Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Julia Michaels as the keynote speaker. Michaels and her team will discuss what it takes to be an artist and succeed in today’s music industry, and delve into topics such as management, A&R, marketing and public relations.

The event will be open to Grammy U members as well as non-members in an effort to maximise the event’s uplifting message. “With this being an event open to non-members, we have been able to really extend our reach and showcase Grammy U to new audiences,” student and Grammy U representative Cassidy Zuver said.

Grammy U representatives Allison Lapinski and Sierra Dudas will moderate the first segment, titled 360° View: Exploring an Artist’s Team.

The second panel will feature a two-part conversation with Michaels. The first part will be a one-on-one chat with her long-time manager and friend, Tischker, and the second a Q&A session in which Michaels will answer questions submitted by Grammy U students.

“As the world slowly begins to open again and the music industry continues to navigate this unprecedented time, Grammy U, the Recording Academy’s university network, wants to make sure future graduates feel like the industry is still a landscape full of possibilities,” Grammy U said.

Student and Grammy U representative Stefan Nixon said: “It has been a challenging year for the music industry as a whole, but it has brought a whole new level of uncertainty to students who aspire to work in this music ecosystem. The job market has been hit really hard right as we look at postgrad opportunities to continue our dreams.”

Last year, the inaugural Grammy U virtual conference featured two panels and a conversation with Jojo and Ruby Amanfu, which was followed by a performance spotlighting UK alt-pop duo Oh Wonder.
