Ghana: GHAMRO holds extraordinary meeting in Kumasi

The meeting, organised by the outgoing board of the collective society of music right owners, led by Kojo Antwi, is scheduled to brief its members about the upcoming elections and the state of the society. 

According to GHAMRO, the agenda of the meeting will include discussions on the financial report and royalty distribution among others. Kojo Antwi, who was sworn into office as the chairman of GHAMRO in February 2015, will complete his two-year term by the end February 2017.

The organisation has been in the new in recent weeks for allegations of unpaid royalties collected and plans to tamper with election results by the outgoing leadership.

The allegations were the crux of a meeting with stakeholders of the organistains in the southern part of the country, which took place on Wednesday, 15 February at the GNAT Hall.

Koffi Sammy appeals to the Ghanaian President to stop the meeting

77-year-old Ghanaian music legend, Abirekyieba Kofi Sammy, has called on the president of the country, Nana Akufo-Addo, to halt the meeting convened by the outgoing board of Ghana Music Right Organisation.

Koffi Sammy and members of the United Concerned Musicians of GHAMRO, led by Randy Nunoo, had been at the forefront of aggrieved members leveling criticisms at the organisation's leadership.

In his appeal, made while on air in Atebubu FM, he said, “I’m pleading with President Nana Addo to stop the general assembly meeting from coming off. I just don’t understand why they have moved the meeting to Kumasi. What are they hiding? They are doing this to frustrate us but it would never work. I’m making a humble appeal to Nana Addo to halt the meeting else the Government of Ghana will be held responsible if anything should happen at the meeting.”
