One Vibe Africa to host Africa Day digital fest
Kenyan non-profit organisation One Vibe Africa will host a 24-hour digital festival on Clubhouse on 25 May.
The Africa Day event will feature live-stream performances, poetry, digital fundraisers and 24 conversations hosted by leaders across the global diaspora. It will see keynote addresses by guests such as Kenyan marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge and Senator Ranard Henfield from the Bahamas, among other guests.
Additionally, the festival will present a screening of Madaraka, a documentary about a mother and a son who come from the slums of Kisumu, Kenya, and their work to educate and liberate their communities through creative collaboration, self-empowerment, entrepreneurship and sustainability.
Africa Day is an annual commemoration of the establishment of the Organisation of African Unity on 25 may 1963, which eventually became the African Union in 2002. It is celebrated across the continent to celebrate African cultures and reflect upon the common challenges that the continent faces.
The One Vibe Africa event will be the first Africa Day celebration to be held on Clubhouse. Interested participants can join here. Clubhouse is an invitation-only social media app for iOS and Android, which allows users to communicate in voice chat rooms that can accommodate up to 5 000 people.
In 2018 and 2019, One Vibe Africa held its Africa Day celebrations at The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Discovery Centre in the US.
