Malawi’s Suffix up for two UK awards
Malawian gospel hip hop artist Suffix has been nominated for two African Gospel Music and Media Awards (AGMMA). The musician earned nominations in the Hip Hop/Afro Rap Artist of Excellence and Video of Excellence categories. The award ceremony will be held on the 3 June in London, UK.

‘Mkazi Wakumwamba’, sitting at about 52 000 YouTube views, earned him the Video of Excellence nomination. The video was released last year in June and features Faith Mussa. Shot using old cars as well as 1950s and traditional costumes, ‘Mkazi Wakumwamba’ has become one of the most viewed Malawian music videos on YouTube. The video was produced by Sukez of HD Plus Creations and Essim of Animal Lab Productions.
Real name Aubrey Ghambi, Suffix shared the news on Facebook this week: "I have been Nominated for African GOSPEL Music & Media Awards 2017 in two Different Categories | Afro Hiphop/Rap Artiste of Excellence and Music Video of Excellence (Mkazi wa Kumwamba),” he wrote. He further encouraged his fans to vote for him, “Voting is now open link.”
To vote for Suffix, voters need to go to categories 13 and 17.
The rapper also told local radio station Capital FM that his nomination reflected the recognition of Malawian music at international level. “It is really amazing and awesome to be nominated. I really appreciate those putting together the awards for recognising Malawian music,” he said.
Suffix, who also received a nomination at the Nyasa Music Awards for the Best Hip Hop Artist, is set to release a new single in a few of weeks.
AGMMA is a UK gospel awards ceremony that recognises the gospel talent of Africa. Featuring 21 categories, the awards seek to unearth, encourage, motivate and inspire musicians and media outfits. AGMMA is produced by 1615 Media, a UK-based Christian media and events company with international affiliations in the music industry.
