K.O, Winky D to headline Bulawayo concert
Award-winning South African rapper K.O and renowned Zimbabwean dancehall artist Winky D are set to headline the Best of Both Worlds concert at the Amphitheatre in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, on 29 April.
K.O and Winky D will be joined by Bulawayo-based rapper Cal_Vin and DJ Liz. The ‘Mission Statement’ hitmaker last held a gig in Bulawayo five years ago and will use the 29 April engagement as a platform to reconnect with his fans.
K.O came to fame in 2006 with the group Teargas following the release of their critically acclaimed debut album K'shubile K'bovu. He is expected to perform such hits as ‘Ding Dong’ and ‘Caracara’.
On the other hand, Winky D, also an award-winning artist who is renowned for luring big crowds, is expected to bring down the house with his own club hits. Basking in the success of last year’s Gafa Futi album, Winky D has earned himself performances at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) and the Southern Africa Music Airwaves Festival.
“I feel excited, humbled and honoured all at once to be part of this gig,” Cal_ Vin, who will be sharing the stage with K.O for the first time, said. “K.O is an African star and every rapper would want to be part of such a list. This is also a good boost for Zim hip hop as a whole, they keep acknowledging our efforts as artists. This is also a big event for Bulawayo, as we hardly have such big hip hop events in the city and we expect a bumper crowd on the night.”
DJ Liz also expressed excitement to be playing alongside K.O. “I am happy that K.O is finally coming to our city,” she said. “I had the privilege to perform with him in Harare, where he left fans asking for me. It’s really the best of both worlds because K.O has his own crowd and so has Winky D, so obviously the show will be packed. This will be a good occasion to showcase the talent in Bulawayo, which is not put out there for the world to consume.”
