Call for applications: City of Johannesburg cultural officer
The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) seeks a cultural officer for its arts, culture and heritage branch.
The successful candidate will operate under the CoJ's Community Development department.
Requirements
- Matric plus national diploma (NQF level 6) plus an appropriate three-year qualification recognised by the council.
- One to three years of experience in the arts and culture/creative industries.
- A valid driver’s license.
Primary function
Manage and co-ordinate applications and procedures associated with the identification, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the effectiveness of cultural development programmes, projects, events and cultural industries initiatives that further the city’s aims and objectives of creating an economically vibrant arts and cultural industry – thereby ensuring that the city becomes the cultural hub of Africa.
Key performance areas
- To control the critical key performance areas and provide input into the broader arts and culture objectives.
- To facilitate grand-in aid to arts-related CBOs and NGOs.
- To manage, design and implement arts and culture programmes including flagship city programme such as Joburg Carnival, Arts Alive Festival, Africa Month and the annual Choral Festival.
- To manage the financial administration of all programmes.
- To manage and attend to the administrative recording, reporting and recordkeeping requirements/procedures.
- To coordinate and control tasks/activities associated with controlling volunteers and external programme partners’ performance, productivity and discipline.
- To promote participation and awareness of arts and culture initiatives and developmental programmes in communities.
- To disseminate information on the immediate and shorter-term objectives and, current developments, problems and constraints.

Salary
- R22 215 pm (basic salary excluding benefits).
