Kingdom Kroseide wins Nigerian Idol Season 6
Kingdom Kroseide won Season 6 of Nigerian Idol at the competition’s grand finale on 11 July.
The TV reality show, which returned in March after a five-year hiatus, saw Kroseide edge first runner-up Francis Atela to clinch the grand prize package of more than ₦50m (about $120 000). It included a cash prize of ₦30m, a new car, a recording deal, trips to Seychelles and the UAE, as well as sponsored products.
A native of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Kroseide is a music teacher and credits his late grandmother as an important inspiration behind his rise.
“My grandma used to say, ‘One day, you’ll be very great,” Kroseide said following his victory. “And then she died and I almost gave up. But I want to thank the judges for believing in me and my fellow contestants for pushing me.”
Atela will get a single produced by a leading Nigerian producer as well as a music video. Other finalists who made the top five were Akunna, Comfort Alalade and Faith Jason.
“We are proud of what Kingdom has achieved on the show,” MultiChoice Nigeria CEO John Ugbe said. “His emergence as the winner is a testament of how much great talent abounds in Nigeria. For us at MultiChoice, we are committed to helping talent like Kingdom, as well as other contestants that participated, reach their potential and also launch them to a much bigger audience.”
Season 6 of Nigerian Idol was hosted by IK Osakioduwa and the judges were Obi Asika, Seyi Shay and DJ Sose. The final night witnessed performances from Patoranking, Ayra Starr and Ice Prince, while Cobhams Asuquo and Chike joined the finalists for performances.
