Nigeria: Aristokrat Group and Boomplay partner on mentorship programme
Nigerian media and entertainment company Aristokrat Group in August kicks off the Open House Series – a four-month mentorship programme in partnership with streaming platform Boomplay.
Headquartered in Lagos, Aristokrat Group is famous for developing top artists and producers like Burna Boy, Leriq and Kel P. The company says the initiative was “born out of the need to structure, reposition and repurpose the backbone of the music industry to ensure quality music delivery, creative direction and encourage growth sustainability.”
The Open House Series seeks to empower, mentor and realign Nigerian talents while helping them understand the music business. It will include extensive music business courses on songwriting, production, performance, touring, marketing, social media, style, and brand identity.
Interested participants can apply for the mentorship programme here.
The programme will kick off with selected participants enrolled in various sessions, including the Music Business Africa course taught by talent manager and music exec Godwin Tom. Participants will get the opportunity to engage in one-on-one chats with industry mentors during sessions that will help them determine the next steps in their careers.
The final phase of the project will see 16 selected participants join top music business professionals and artists at a two-week production camp at Aristokrat Music Studio in Port Harcourt, where they will work together to produce a collaborative album that will be distributed and promoted globally by Boomplay. The finalists will benefit from promotion, distribution and career consultation services.
“This partnership aligns with Boomplay’s commitment to helping the music industry unlock its full potential, by discovering, nurturing, promoting and supporting the growth and development of budding African artists,” Boomplay director of artist and media relations Tosin Sorinola said.
She reiterated Boomplay’s support for the advancement of African music, noting that the Open House album will be the first of numerous music projects emerging from the series.
Aristokrat Group CEO Piriye Isokrari said: “Last year, the Aristokrat team decided to open our doors and lend a helping hand to a few upcoming artists, producers and music business professionals. It was truly an enlightening experience and we knew we had to find a way to do more.”
