Wizkid joins Tommy Hilfiger’s Pass the Mic campaign
Afrobeats star Wizkid was on Monday unveiled as an ambassador for US clothing brand Tommy Hilfiger’s Pass the Mic campaign.
The campaign, which emphasises people’s ability to create positive change, also stars US musicians Jack Harlow and DJ Cassidy, actors Yara Shahidi and Anthony Ramos, and South Korean movie star Kim Soo-hyun.
The campaign features the new Tommy Hilfiger Fall/Winter 21 collection, which is created with environmentally friendly techniques and materials.
“Every voice has the power to light up the world,” Tommy Hilfiger said. “We are quite literally ‘Passing the Mic’, first to the select voices and then to our global audiences, in order to drive meaningful and long-lasting change. I am proud that our fall 2021 collection is represented by such an incredible and diverse group who are sharing their voices on our platform.”
The campaign has posted Instagram videos with global influencers talking about what drives them to make a difference in the world. The artists also ask the public to respond to questions like “What inspires you to make a difference?” and “What would you say if the world was listening?” People can then respond to these questions by filming themselves via direct messages on Tommy Hilfiger’s Instagram page.
Wizkid’s Tommy Hilfiger deal adds to his growing portfolio of fashion collaborations, which in recent months have included brands like Daily Paper and Puma. The ‘Ojuelegba’ singer is currently touring North America in support of his 2020 album Made in Lagos.
Earlier this month, Beyoncé’s Wizkid-assisted ‘Brown Skin Girl’ won the Best Cinematography Award at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. The song also secured the Nigerian a Grammy Award for Best Music Video and his second consecutive NAACP Image Award back in March.
Last month, Wizkid published the remix of his globally acclaimed song ‘Essence’ featuring a new verse from Justin Bieber, and last week his track ‘Joro’ was featured on the soundtrack of Netflix show Sex Education.
