Call for applications: Technical Production Lead for ACCES 2021 showcases
The Music In Africa Foundation seeks to contract a Technical Production Lead for showcases at ACCES 2021. This position will run for two months (October to November). The MIAF is strictly looking for a person who has relevant experience and a proven track record in similar positions.
The Music In Africa Conference for Collaborations, Exchange and Showcases (ACCES) is a pan-African platform for music industry players from across the continent to exchange ideas, discover new talent and accelerate the shaping of the vibrant music sector on the continent. ACCES is held in a different African city every year, attracting delegates from more than 50 countries in Africa and beyond. The event takes place over three days, offering a dynamic programme that includes training workshops, panel discussions, presentations, live performances, networking sessions, exhibitions and visits to key music industry hubs in the host city.
The Technical Production Lead will ensure that all the technical needs of the performance infrastructure come together smoothly (stage, equipment, AV, sound, teams, workflow and talent). He/she will provide practical and management support to the MIAF team, artists and technical crew throughout the production process, and supervise onstage and backstage activity during performances to ensure a professional production.
The event is scheduled to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 25 to 27 November 2021. The event will comprise three days daytime conferencing and evening showcasing (live performances) at multiple venues.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate technical needs for the showcases with support from MIAF team,
- Technical production of concerts (overall oversight).
- Sourcing of technical equipment (AV, lighting, etc.).
- Managing suppliers and contractors.
- Backline collation (work with team and talent).
- Artist liaison on tech riders (create an inclusive technical rider for stages and ensure all required gear is available).
- Assist in procurement of services negotiation of supplier, etc.
- Artist communication – focus on performances (all performance venues).
- Ensure that agreed set design is achieved.
- Overseeing build and onsite delivery.
- Site(s) preparation and management during supplier load-in and load-out.
- Perform site visits.
- Planning, design and delivery of event with support from the MIAF team.
- Management of allocated crew and assistants.
- Post-event analysis.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- A tertiary qualification in events management and production or related qualification.
- At least 10 years’ experience in similar positions.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills in English
- Proficient use of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word is a must.
- Experience in working within a multicultural and international environment.
- Ability to use an international network of contacts for commercial purposes.
- Demonstrable expertise in managing projects within tight deadlines.
- Strong work ethic and attention to quality and detail.
- Ability to solve problems and successfully engage with appropriate technical and internal resources
- Ability to juggle multiple projects through highly effective organisational skills.
- Be able to work flexible hours to accommodate event schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to organise and coordinate complex, high-profile functions and logistical activities using specific principles and practices for event planning and coordination, from pre-production to production and post-production.
- Great people skills and ability to work in a team is a must.
