Burna Boy to play Festi'Dakar 2021
Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy will conclude this year’s edition of Festi’Dakar at the Esplanade Museum of Black Civilisations in Dakar, Senegal, on 25 December.
Now in its third edition, the annual programme is put together by local event promoter Rakhou Prod as part of the company’s vision to showcase Africa’s musical richness while promoting its artists, bands and dance.
The three-day event will begin on 17 December with a charity gala, followed by a concert featuring Dadju on 18 December.
The face of Afrobeats/Afro-fusion, Burna Boy’s foray into the Senegalese musical landscape came via his collaborative song ‘Level Up’, which features local veteran musician Youssou N’Dour. The track is taken from the Nigerian singer’s Twice As Tall LP, which won the musician a Grammy Award at the 63rd edition of the awards ceremony earlier this year.
“Africa is in the house,” Burna Boy said during his acceptance speech. “This is a big win for my generation of Africans all over the world. And this should be a lesson to every African out there: no matter where you are, no matter what you plan to do, you can achieve it no matter where you’re from because you’re a king.”
The ‘Ye’ singer’s Senegal concert coincides with his ongoing Space Drift World Tour, whose Europe leg will see him perform in Germany, Spain, Portugal and Sweden next year.
Seperately, Burna Boy, who won his third consecutive BET Award in June, is currently promoting his new single ‘Want it All’ featuring US rapper Polo G.
“I’ve been watching him for some time, and I just knew this had to get done, but it had to get done in the perfect way where the whole world gets to feel the reality of both of us,” Burna Boy said of the collaboration.
